Gift Planner FAQs

I found a great gift and I want to know its exact location. How do I save the location?
Just add the new gift and tap on the “Map It” icon when including the new gift details.

I used the “Map It” feature for a couple gifts. How can I see them all at once?
Just tap on “More” than tap “Gift Map” and you’ll be able to view all the gifts you’ve mapped.

How do I access Facebook?
Tap on “More” than tap “Options”. Under “Facebook Connection” tap “Connect”. Just submit your email address and password and tap “Connect”.

How do I add contacts from my Facebook account?
You must be connected to Facebook through the Gift Planner app. Once connected just select “Facebook” as the person source when adding your new gift recipient.

Can I add multiple contacts from my Address Book at once?
Yes. Just select the names you wish from your address book by tapping their name. Names that display a check mark have been selected. After choosing your contacts just tap “Save”.

How can I add a Facebook friend’s birthday to Gift Planner?
When viewing your friend’s details in Gift Planner, just tap on the birthday cake icon, tap “Save” and you’re done. If your friend’s birthday is not listed, the cake icon will be hidden.

What does the birthday cake icon with lit candles mean?
If you see a birthday cake icon with lit candles, it means you successfully added your friend’s birthday to Gift Planner.

I used to have Gift Planner before, why does it look different now?
Considering the helpfulness of Gift Planner around the holiday season, it only seemed natural to offer the same great convenience and flexibility year-round! Now you can plan and track your gift spending for occasions like birthdays, weddings, graduations, and all other special events. Don’t forget you can even use Gift Planner for yourself by creating and sharing customized wish lists.

Why are some of my favorite holidays on Gift Planner and some aren’t?
Gift Planner comes loaded with all U.S. and Canadian Federal holidays and observances along with common gift giving holidays. If you celebrate a holiday you would like to include on Gift Planner simply add it as an occasion.

Is my personal data being sent anywhere?
No. The only information we track is the unique identifier of your iPhone, which is in no way a means to identify you. We use this data to see how people are using the application.

Why can’t I add the same person to more than one group?
The application creates group budgets based on the people assigned to a group. Therefore, to ensure the budgets reflect an accurate snapshot of your planned purchases, each person can only be assigned to one group.

Why do my budgets adjust automatically?
The Gift Planner was designed to encourage responsible spending and budgeting practices. Therefore, automation helps users keep track of their budget.

Can you provide tips for using the application to new users?

At any time, while within the App, you can shake your device to view helpful tool tips to make using Gift Planner easier.

Getting Started – People Tab:

  • A list of your iPhone contacts will display in the “People” tab of the application.
  • To select your first gift recipient, select an existing iPhone contact or tap on the “+” to the right of “People” and create a new recipient. You can add a recipient to the application without adding them to your iPhone contacts.
  • Once a gift recipient is selected, you can plan a budget and assign a gift and group for them by simply tapping on their respective icons.

Add an occasion

  • Add an occasion by tapping on “+” in the “Occasions” tab. Select a Name, Date, and Type of occasion.
  • Tap on an occasion to add a gift recipient and/or create a budget.

Add a new gift

  • If the gift icon does not appear in the bottom navigation, tap on the “More” icon.
  • In the gift section, select on an existing gift or add a new one by tapping on “+” in the “Gift” tab.
  • To add a photo to a gift, tap on the blue and silver present.

Wish List – Adding Gifts and Sending List

  • If the wish list icon does not appear in the bottom navigation, tap on the “More” icon.

Connect to Facebook

  • To access your Facebook account, just tap “Connect”. Enter your Facebook account email address and password, tap “Connect”. You can now add contacts to Gift Planner from Facebook!

Birthdays

  • If Gift Planner knows your friend’s birth date, you will see a birthday cake icon. Simply tap the cake and save the occasion, and your friend’s birthday is set up! You’ll know there’s an occasion attached to your friend’s birthday when the candles are lit!
